"Alice of Onderland", by Anita R. Collins

Alice is completly handsculpted out of polymer clay, she has purple handmade eyes with applied sooty lashes and a tear on her cheek, lemon yellow mohair hair, blue silk dress, leather shoes and skinned knees, the chair is customized mohagany (removable). She would be 8 inches if standing.

I call this piece "Alice of Onderland". "Of" because here she is not a visitor anymore, but becoming part of that world. The dropping of the "W" in wonderland is a sign of forgetfulness of structure and correctness.

Symbolically the Cheshire cat represents Alice's voice of reason, represented here in the form of a balloon to evoke a "thought ballon" as seen in cartoons and because he had the ability to pop in and out without a body.

This piece for me is about how Alice returned to Wonderland throughout her life having further adventures as she descended slowly into madness. The chair represents the ridged proper english upbringing Alice was born into. Throughout the story she's always struggled to maintain properness and to be ladylike, now it's overgrown and taken over by nature.. mushrooms, vines, water and moss.

Alice is losing her connection with the real world rules and raises her hand in a wave gesture. Though she has a mischievous faint smile there is also a tear on her cheek. Is it a crocodile tear? She delights in this world of imagination, but will possibly miss some aspects of the real world.

All of my creations are one of a kind (OOAK) and born of my imagination. She is discreetly signed with my initials A.R.C, certificate of authenticity upon request.
